Taiwan-based photographer Ada Wang captures the poetic flow of a young bride’s descent underwater. But the groom is nowhere to see. Only water.
On a day that is consider to be the happiest and most memorable in a person’s life, this young woman, Ada Wang‘s subject, seems to be stuck spending it in liquid confinement, elegantly trapped in a sea of emotions, nevertheless, still clutching onto her wilting bouquet. Very emotional and fragile, this resigned bride -which reminds one of a mermaid- surely talks loudly in her watery silence.
Love? This series may well remind one of Smoke City’s fantastic 1997 videoclip “Underwater Love”, or even the Levi’s television advertisement of the same year, titled “Mermaids” and directed by Michel Gondry. But since the bride is on her own in the deep, probably cold water, oh, this has absolutely nothing to do with love. On the surface, that is. Because deep down, it always does.
