Mercedes-Benz surfboard for big-wave rider Garrett McNamara 6

Mercedes-Benz is taking a big step outside of the box for latest project, teaming up with ad agency BBDO Portugal to design the brand’s first ever surfboard for none other than big-wave rider Garrett McNamara.

Garrett “GMAC McNamara is an American professional big wave surfer and extreme waterman,  chasing storms and tracking swells, known for breaking the world record for largest wave ever -78 foot (24 m)- surfed at Nazaré, Portugal, surviving a monstrous wave at Jaws, and riding tidal waves from calving glaciers in Alaska. And “Silver Arrow of the Seas”, one of the most beautiful surfboards we have ever seen actually, was created specifically for him by Mercedes-Benz in collaboration with ad agency BBDO Portugal. Yes, it is for the first time in history that technicians, engineers and designers at Mercedes-Benz AMG developed a surfboard.

And yes, everything on this gorgeous board was tailored to McNamara’s surf style. This beauty even includes a high-tech integrated telemetry system that will let him track key analytics from his run, helping to improve his surfing abilities. As expected though, and as of right now, this surfboard is nothing more than a one off, made specifically for a Benz sponsored athlete.

Don’t cry over spilled…water, fellow well-heeled surfers. One day, we might ride it too.
