The Munich Brauhaus by Technē Architecture

Munich has certainly conquered Melbourne – with Technē Architecture + Interior Design bringing new life to the traditional Bavarian beerhaus. The project, from the Urban Purveyor Group, is Munich Brauhaus, a 900-seater German beerhall in the heart of South Wharf, Australia.– where Oktoberfest happens 365 days of the year.

The area is extensively used by joggers, tourists and cyclists as well as those coming for the neighbouring South Wharf DFO and those who work in the nearby Docklands,” says Giles Freeman from Technē.

The venue has been split between 3 distinct zones separated by 2 mezzanine structures. Features include 3 separate bars, both a dining mezzanine & traditional dining hall, private function room & outside seating areas.

We thoroughly enjoyed designing a playful and festive space for a contemporary venue, which in itself seeks to be an interesting update to a revered tradition,” adds Freeman.

Well, if the very target was to recreate an Antipodean version of a cavernous German beer hall in a prime waterfront location, Technē Architecture and Interior Design certainly accomplished it. With great ease. Now, the massive venue can cater for 900 thirsty folks. Thumbs up, guys.
