Prouvé RAW presents a collection of Jean Prouvé furniture classics – newly interpreted by denim specialist G-Star RAW and Swiss furniture manufacturer Vitra, in collaboration with the Prouvé family.
Introducing “Prouvé RAW Office Edition,” G-Star’s latest collaboration with furniture design empire Vitra, consisting of 13 items for the office and home including chairs, desks, lamps and tables. The collection pays homage to French modernist Jean Prouvé who originally crafted utilitarian, technical objects in the 1940s.
Inspired by their mutual passion for this French Modernist’s iconic designs, the G-Star and Vitra creative teams worked for two years to give some of Jean Prouvé’s best known designs a fresh, contemporary look and feel, while re-discovering the charm of some of his lesser known pieces.
Prouvé RAW is a collection of eighteen design classics that embraces the essence of Jean Prouvé’s work, while also adding contemporary colours, textiles and details.
Look for the whole series in stores in April 2015.
About Jean Prouvé: He was born 1901 in Paris, was trained as a metal artisan under Emile Robert, Enghien und Szabo in Paris. In 1924 he opened his own workshop in Nancy and began to produce his first furnishings made of formed sheet steel in 1925. He was a founding member of the Union des Artistes Modernes (UAM) in 1930. In the following year he established his own manufacturing firm, Les Ateliers Jean Prouvé. During the 1930s, the company produced numerous furniture designs, as well as some of the first prefabricated architectural elements, including components for the Maison du Peuple in Clichy (in collaboration with the architects Beaudoin and Lods), whose steel-and-glass structure attracted a great deal of attention. In many of his works, Jean Prouvé achieved the goal of uniting functional requirements, the honest use of materials and economical concerns with the complex demands of mass production.
