French designer duo of Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec have now come up with the furniture for the remodelled Faculty of Humanities at Københavns Universitet in Copenhagen, due to reopen in January. Since the last century, whenever a school or university would be built in Denmark, authorities would ask a specific designer to deliver the chairs for that space. The brief specified this time a wooden chair of low-cost, strong, stackable and quick to develop and produce. The resulting seat is more flexible than a shell made in one piece, while the A-shaped legs allow the chairs to stack neatly in high piles and the cost was kept down, at around 150 euros. This complete collection is now also available from Danish design brand Hay, which has just introduced it to the public at the Orgatec Design Fair in Cologne.
