Scent of Light, designed by Diego Vencato and Marco Merendi is a bubble lamp that has adopted the teardrop shape of a perfume bottle.
Scent of Light expresses a simple and delicate form, giving one the impression as if an aromatic liquid is being blown out of its socket, into a balloon made of glass in glowing luminous colors. Using a particularly clear formulation of glass the LED lamp is coated with metal oxides to give it a soapy or oil-like ethereal sheen. The bulbous shapes sit within a shallow dish, allowing one to freely tilt the object to achieve their desired ambiance.

The inspiration comes from thinking of light as a fragrance, an intangible but ever-so evocative matter”, says Vencato. “Smell is the most archaic and basic of our senses, it is so archetypical that it is difficult to explain it. The lamp tells the story of something which has no weight, a remembrance or an instant of our life, frozen in a portion of air”.

All in all, this inspired by the perfume bottle, a very well known icon, lamp, is iconic and simple, light and delicate and it does come with a different but very evocative and contemporary usability.
