Artist Daniel Lai aka Kenjio, used a captivating paper folding technique. And what came out was the series of “Thinker sculptures”, that seem to echo Rodin’s “The Thinker” -that’s for the trained ones among you- and depict some intense attention to the minutest of details and innovative dexterity in different mediums that include clay and paper..

Daniel Lai, of Chinese descent, was born and raised in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysiα, but he moved to the U.S. in 2000. He has a BA in Linguistics (2003) and an MA in Art Studies/Art History (2006) from Montclair State University and he is currently pursuing his Ph.D. in criminology (!). When he is taking a break from his studies, he makes art. And that’s what actually counts.

So, every book that Lai uses, seems to blossom like a flower outwardly in different paper waves, well folded within them and then harnessed with excellently made masculine clay figurines, seemingly deep in thought or carrying out some action.

To purchase some of these charming wall pieces, check out the artist’s Etsy shop. But before you do, check out Lai’s video interview, conducted by news reporters at Knoxnews, for some insight into his process.
